Multiple users updating excel spreadsheet
UPDATE July 17th 2011: Here’s an Excel spreadsheet that downloads historical Forex rates for two currency pairs between two dates UPDATE 18th August 2011: Here’s a Mathcad worksheet to download stock quotes from Yahoo Finance UPDATE 14th February 2013: Download historical quotes into Excel for multiple stock tickers here UPDATE 5th January 2014: I’ve just evaluated a financial data add-in for Excel Market XLS.
It’s a rock-solid route to getting live stock data inside Excel.
It can be modified to download other data found on the web.
You’ll need to enable macros before you use the spreadsheet (Excel may warn you that you’re importing a macro-enabled worksheet).
You could also perform far more advanced analyses (which I’ll discuss in future blog posts).
Instead of using those as hard-coded input data, you can create an Excel formula that will retrieve stock prices for a given date.
When you select multiple worksheets, any editing change that you make to the current worksheet — such as entering information in cells or deleting stuff from them — affects the same cells in all the selected sheets in exactly the same way.
Suppose you need to set up a new workbook with three worksheets that contain the names of the months across row 3 beginning in column B.
Prior to entering January in cell B3 and using the Auto Fill handle to fill in the 11 months across row 3, you select all three worksheets.
When you enter the names of the months in the third row of the first sheet, Excel will insert the names of the months in row 3 of all three selected worksheets.
It was subsequently bought for $270 million dollars by Intuit.
